Canterbury Choral Society presents its seventh annual summer day-camp for kids,?Camp Canterbury, June 4 through 9, 2012 on the campus of??Oklahoma City University.
Camp Canterbury?provides students entering grades 2 through 9 a week of making music while making new friends.??The camp culminates in a performance on stage at Oklahoma City University followed by a reception for family members.?Camp Canterbury?reaches nearly 100 students each year through a fun and educational environment. The program prepares students for their school program or to audition for the Canterbury Youth Choruses; Canterbury?s flagship music education program.
?As schools are continually being forced to eliminate their fine arts programs due to budget concerns,?Camp Canterbury?is seeking to reach the children of our community through quality choral music education,? said Dr. Kay E. Holt, Executive Director of the Canterbury Choral Society. ?We seek to support students? music education needs with hands-on instruction with renowned music educators.?
Led by Canterbury Youth Choruses (CYC) Artistic Director and Oklahoma City University Wanda L. Bass Professor of Conducting and Choral Music Education, Judith Willoughby, Camp Canterbury is open to students from all over the Oklahoma City metro. Willoughby will be joined by CYC instructor and Wilson Elementary Vocal Music Specialist, Meredith Cook.
?Camp Canterbury is offered to all interested singers with a recommendation from their music teacher,??said Joanie Gregory-Pullen, Coordinator of Education and School Partnerships for Canterbury Choral Society. ?We recommend students be able to match pitch, repeat simple rhythm patterns and read simple music notation to be successful and make the most of their week at camp.?

Camp Canterbury?is just one of Canterbury Choral Society?s music education programs for children. The?Canterbury Youth Choruses, Canterbury Club Chorus?? a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County, and?Canterbury High School Side-by-Side Program?reach over 300 school-aged students each year. Combined with a strategic partnership with Oklahoma City University and the Adult Chorus Civic Center Season, Canterbury meets the choral music education needs of generations throughout Oklahoma.
