THE OPPORTUNITY
The Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs is responsible for providing visionary leadership and direction as well as planning, developing, managing, and administering programs and strategies for the Office of Student Affairs. This position will collaborate with campus leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to recruit and retain a vibrant and diverse student body.

Other principal responsibilities include:

  • Directing program operations and the allocation of resources and assuring program results
  • Establishing and implementing short- and long-range organizational goals and objectives
  • Representing the campus to internal and external constituents.
  • Providing leadership for development, administration, and assessment of a comprehensive student affairs program for the Tri-Cities campus
  • Cultivating positive relationships with historically underserved communities in the region
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic plan for Student Affairs to support the campus' strategic plan and mission
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with University personnel as well as with outside agencies, groups, and individuals
  • Coordinating with staff to provide appropriate Student Affairs representation on campus committees
  • Fostering and maintaining a supportive environment for internal and external clients
  • Collaborating with academic leadership and faculty for effective offerings of coursework to meet the needs of current and prospective students and assisting in developing a plan for student recruitment and retention campus wide
  • Coordinating with appropriate campus administrators on student issues, personnel matters, communications, proposals, and issues of mutual concern
  • Overseeing student and academic support services activities including accommodation services for students with disabilities
  • Serving as primary contact for student emergencies and crisis intervention
  • Overseeing the development of referral resources in the community for services not generally available on campus
  • Serving as primary resource to the Chancellor on student issues and policies
  • Overseeing the advising of ASWSUTC Executive Officers
  • Facilitating the organization of the Services & Activities Fee Allocation Committee and the S & A Facilities Fee Allocation Committees on campus
  • Developing and administering budget for Student Affairs and overseeing fiscal and related recordkeeping
QUALIFICATIONS
A master's degree in a relevant field, such as Leadership, Organizational Development, Education, etc., is required. An earned doctorate or equivalent degree in an appropriate field is preferred.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in Student Services, including Admissions, Enrollment Management, Student Recruitment, Student Retention, Student Life, and Student Program or other related experience.

Other requirements include:

  • Demonstrated experience facilitating opportunities for staff growth and professional development
  • Demonstrated record of commitment to inclusiveness and diversity in recruitment, student life, and student programs
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Must have or be able to obtain at time of hire a valid unrestricted driver's license.
  • Preferred qualifications include:
  • Working knowledge of student information systems and technology
  • Experience with student records, data analysis, and assessment
  • Experience working in collaboration with academic programs
  • An understanding of the special needs and concerns of the diverse cultural communities at WSU Tri-Cities
  • Experience working or living among other cultures
  • A track record of working with and/or for under-served or under-represented populations
Skills, knowledge, and competencies required include:

WSU Tri-Cities, one of three urban campuses in the Washington State University system, is the only public, four-year institution in southeastern Washington.
