'Teen Mom' Farrah enters luxury rehab center

Farrah Abraham will spend the next 10 days in a Florida rehab center.

"Teen Mom" star Farrah Abraham checked into a Florida rehab center late Sunday night, but not before video-blogging her car ride to the airport on her Keek site.

Abraham, who in the video said she was "sad" to leave her daughter, Sophia, will be spending the next nine days at The Lukens Institute, a luxury rehab facility in Palm Beach, Fla., recommended to Abraham's manager by Michael Lohan.

?(Farrah's manager) contacted me regarding Farrah and the treatment program The Lukens Institute offers," Lohan told TODAY.com. "It?s very individualized core issue and trauma therapy."

In a statement, Abraham said that completing an intensive outpatient program was required to satisfy the terms of her probation stemming from her March DWI arrest.

"I must complete in order to get off of probation, due to my DWI received in March earlier this year," Abraham said. "At this time in my life I need to stay focused on the positive to get through all of these negatives that this DWI has caused in my life. I?m 22 and I want to make better choices and insure I can recognize when I?m putting myself in a bad situation next time."

According to a document obtained by Radar Online, Phyllis Moczygemba, the executive director of the Austin Drug & Alcohol Abuse Program, recommended that Abraham complete a 60-hour intensive outpatient program. In the state-mandated evaluation, Moczygemba reported that Abraham had difficulty making eye contact, and that she was standoffish and "sarcastic when answering the questions asked of her."

Abraham's sister, Ashley Danielson, thinks entering the program is a positive start. "She?s going to rehab to avoid jail, but I?m happy she?s finally taking responsibility for her own actions,? Danielson told TODAY.com.

The reality personality won't exactly be roughing it during her rehab stay. "At The Lukens Institute, your room is like living in a suite at the Ritz Carlton," Lohan said.

This has been quite the year for Abraham. Following her March DWI arrest, she starred in a porn movie with adult film star James Deen, and has been making appearances at strip clubs and erotica conventions across the country to promote the film. Her stay in rehab will not conflict with any of her scheduled appearances.

?Our accelerated program is designed for motivated, high-functioning individuals with demanding careers and busy schedules who want private, individualized care, as well as a high degree of personal freedom," The Lukens Institute said in a statement.

Abraham won't have much time to reflect on her rehab experience. Three days after she is scheduled to check out of the facility, she will be making an appearance at the EXXXOTICA Chicago convention, followed by an appearance at Vivid's Gentlemen's Club in Charlotte, N.C.

But for now, she's happy to be getting help.

Bing adds licensing rights refinement to image search

Here's a nice little feature for those of us who love to post images on the internet. Bing has added the ability to refine image results by license. The addition's simple enough to use -- just do a search and pull the appropriate license from a drop down on the top of the results page, alongside options for date, size and color. Selections include public domain and options like "free to modify, share and use," based on the Creative Commons licensing system, so there's no doubt as to precisely how you can incorporate them into your own posts. Google's had a similar option on its own search engine for some time -- albeit one's that's a bit less prominently displayed.

Dan Bylsma, coach of the National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins, was named head coach of the 2014 U.S. Olympic men's ice hockey team, USA Hockey announced on Saturday.

Bylsma, who won NHL coach of the year honors in 2011, steered the Penguins to the best record in the Eastern Conference during the 2012-13 season and to the conference finals before being swept by the Boston Bruins.

"We're thrilled to have Dan as coach of our men's Olympic team," USA Hockey president Ron DeGregorio said in a statement.

"He's rapidly established himself as one of the most prominent coaches in our country today and we know he'll help put us in the best position of achieving our ultimate goal of bringing home the gold medal."

The United States were runners-up to Canada on the ice at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, losing 3-2 in overtime on a gold-medal winning goal by Sidney Crosby, a member of Bylsma's Penguins team.

Bylsma, who has no international coaching experience, won the 2009 Stanley Cup with the Penguins and Crosby.

"It's an unbelievable honor to be selected to represent our country," Bylsma said. "Together with our coaching staff and management group, I will do everything I can to prepare our team to be in a position to win gold in Sochi."

Bylsma, who employs a flowing offensive style that could be suited to the international game, will be working closely with team general manager David Poile, the GM of the Nashville Predators, and Brian Burke, director of player personnel.

USA Hockey plans to conduct an orientation camp the last week of August at the Washington Capitals' practice facility for prospective players.

The Winter Olympics are scheduled for Feb 7-23 in Sochi, Russia.

8 wounded, one critically, in Brooklyn party shooting

Nine people were shot and wounded, one of them critically, after a dispute at a house party in Brooklyn, New York, early Sunday, police said.

Five women and four men ? all adults ? were injured when shots rang out at the domestic celebration in the district?s East 57th Street shortly after 1 a.m. ET, a spokesman for the Deputy Commissioner for Public Information at the New York Police Department confirmed.

One of the victims was admitted to the hospital with ?life-threatening? injuries, the DCPI said. Her condition later improved and she is now in stable condition.

It remained unclear how many people fired shots, according to police.

No arrests were made, and no suspects identified.

Aspen Ideas Festival: Is Twitter bringing back the live TV experience?

ASPEN, COLO. -- The living room. Despite many different efforts and strategies, it's one place filled to the brim with technology that both tech makers and entertainment giants still can't seem to pin down.

Nevertheless, that's becoming a moot point.

However it happens, former FCC chairman Julius?Genachowski asserted at the 2013 Aspen Ideas Festival on Sunday morning that eventually every home in the United States will have an Internet-connected TV, whether it's via a set-top box or directly integrated into the television set itself.

Genachowski?asserted that as a country, "we're in a pretty good place right now" in terms of LTE and high-speed Internet network deployments, going from 20th worldwide to eighth.

Also a former executive at Internet and media company IAC/InterActiveCorp, Genachowski announced back in March amid a shakeup at the FCC that he would be resigning as chairman.

According to his resignation memo, the federal agency installed more wired broadband fiber across "the U.S. in each of the last two years than in any year since 2000, and average broadband speeds nearly doubled since 2009" during his tenure.

But?Genachowski predicted this growth can only continue with an acute focus on the following three factors: improving speed and capacity, fostering industry competition, and maintaining the openness of the Internet.

"If we don't as a country keep paying attention to this, we'll freeze up the innovators who are planning ahead for faster and faster speeds," Genachowski warned.

But those innovators -- including everyone from the designers and manufacturers of these entertainment systems to the studios providing the content -- are still working out how to deliver and make money based off these evolving network infrastructures.

No one might know this better than traditional cable companies, which are facing more pressure than ever to compete with alternative sources available online, such as Netflix and Hulu. These platforms have also fueled the shift towards watching content at virtually anytime from anywhere versus scheduled live programming.

"If we don't as a country keep paying attention to this, we'll freeze up the innovators who are planning ahead for faster and faster speeds," Genachowski warned.

Then again, industry experts hinted that the pendulum could be swinging back towards higher viewership for live programming thanks to social media.

Panel moderator and co-founder of Insight Venture Partners Jerry Murdock asked, "Is Twitter bringing back the live TV experience?"

Michael Lynton, CEO of Sony USA, admitted this is true to some extent, especially for sports -- although he quickly added those events are going to have a widely-watched live experience regardless.

"In general, what we used to call the 'watercooler effect' has been vastly exaggerated by Twitter," Lynton remarked. "So people want to be in the know when it happens..

Lynton described that high-speed Internet hadn't really presented itself as a competitive market until recently.

Using the United Kingdom as an example, Lynton said that just three years ago, digital satellite TV provider Sky was the only customer for buying movies.

Now, he continued, other buyers such as Netflix and Amazon have flooded the market.

"All of a sudden we have buyers for our product that we didn't have in the past," Lynton posited. "It's a good time to be a seller of movies and TV shows virtually anywhere in the world."

Aside from these new sales figures, it's also been a sticky point of figuring out how to measure the value of online viewership. This is where Twitter might have found its sweet spot in the marketing world.

Twitter CEO Dick Costelo pointed out that a big problem for the "binge-viewing" model on Netflix doesn't offer the kind of "watercooler" moment that film and TV studios relished before.

"With some of these over the top programs like House of Cards, there wasn't a moment where it premiered like [HBO's] Game of Thrones," Costelo explained. "There wasn't a time for people to gather together and converse about it."

"All of a sudden we have buyers for our product that we didn't have in the past," Lynton posited. "It's a good time to be a seller of movies and TV shows virtually anywhere in the world."

Costelo suggested that it would be interesting for Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and "folks working on those sorts of programs" to play more with the model setup by the recent debut of the new season of Arrested Development, which also premiered directly on Netflix.

The difference with that debut is that while all of the season's episodes appeared at the same time online, it was announced and celebrated as an event leading up to the premiere. Costelo specified that there was a "moment" where everyone knew to tune in -- at least initially.

With IPO rumors abound, Twitter has been playing with a number of different potential revenue streams. One that could prove fruitful is a new relationship with Nielsen.

The?global information and measurement firm will take Twitter data and marry it with its methodology to craft a "Twitter TV rating." Costelo explained that it will offer concrete data about both the viewership and the depth of conversation online.

"That will be helpful to broadcasters who are trying to understand and measure the volume of engagement around their shows," Costelo said, acknowledging that there might be some programs that experience lighter viewing numbers in a particular time slot, but the viewership "passion" on Twitter could make for a story to sell to marketers.
