A Baby for Prince William & Princess Kate?

As Queen Elizabeth prepares to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee -- 60 years on the throne, Prince William sits down with Katie Couric and reveals he's "eager" to start a family and Princess Kate. But no, he said he wouldn't reveal any more which means the royal bump watch continues. Also, why Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook is no longer one of the Top 40 Richest Men in the world, whether Madonna was seeking revenge recently on Lady Gaga, how Michelle Obama is now the second author of the family with a new book out this week and how Mitt Romney might have been trumped by Donald Trump on the day he clinched the GOP nomination.

Study of 2 million patients outlines embolism treatments

EAST LANSING, Mich. A filter used to block clots from passing from the veins in the legs to the arteries of the lung does not improve mortality rates for most patients suffering a pulmonary embolism. However, if a patient is unstable in shock or requires a ventilator filters can save lives.

Furthermore, for unstable patients with a pulmonary embolism, it is crucial they receive clot-dissolving medications known as thrombolytic therapy.

The findings come from a set of three research articles on pulmonary embolism treatment published by Michigan State University's Paul Stein in the May edition of the American Journal of Medicine. The findings are based on a study of more than two million patients suffering from the sometimes deadly clots that travel to the lungs and block arteries.

Stein said the studies provide clearer guidance on what treatments are most effective for patients, specifically in regard to vena cava filters and thrombolytic therapy.

"There has been an increase in the use of vena cava filters in the past several years for patients who arrive at a hospital suffering from a pulmonary embolism," said Stein, a professor in osteopathic medical specialties and also director of research at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Mich.

"But it appears the vast majority of filters that are placed in patients with pulmonary embolism may not reduce mortality."

However, he stressed that for the small proportion of patients who arrive at a hospital in an unstable condition, the data suggest mortality can be greatly reduced with a filter.

"These studies provide strong evidence on when filters reduce mortality and when they will not," he said. "Only a small percentage of patients suffering from a pulmonary embolism are in shock or in need of ventilation support, and therefore only a small proportion need a filter."

Stein said for unstable patients it is vital that in addition to using a filter, they receive thrombolytic therapy, which is much less of a risk than the surgical removal of a clot known as an embolectomy.

"Only about a third of unstable patients receive thrombolytic therapy," he said. "The reason may be doctors are afraid that patients will suffer from excessive bleeding. But the data show thrombolytic therapy would save lives if used more frequently."

As for an embolectormy, Stein's team found that in most surgical centers, unless the clinicians are highly specialized and experienced, the mortality rate is high. In most hands, he said, thrombolytic therapy would save more lives.

The findings were from a nationwide government database, the Nationwide Inpatient Sample, and included data on more than two million patients who suffered a pulmonary embolism between 1999 and 2008.

SESAME STREET MUPPETS HELP KIDS BECOME RESILIENT!

?WHAT WE ARE? ANTHEM DEBUTS

ON THE INTREPID IN NYC IN HONOR OF MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Elmo, Rosita and Gordon Perform Live with the Quantico Marine Corps Band and

Matt Rogers, Host of Lifetime?s Coming Home

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New York, New York, May 23, 2012. Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, kicks off its newest outreach initiative, Little Children, Big Challenges, for military, veteran, and general public families with young children. This initiative aims to provide the skills and strategies young children need to build resilience and persevere through day-to-day as well as more serious changes and transitions. Early childhood has been emphasized as a crucial time for promoting resilience, as it can lead to a significant impact on children?s well-being and future success in all areas of life.[1],[2]Little Children, Big Challenges will kick off with a new anthem, What We Are, which will be performed live on the Intrepid (Saturday, May 26th) by the Quantico Marine Corps Band with Sesame Street?s Gordon, Elmo and Rosita, and the host of Lifetime?s Coming Home, Matt Rogers.

Here is an excerpt from the new anthem:

CHORUS

Muppets: Oh, going to hold our heads up high

Kids: High!

Muppets: Keep on reaching high!

Kids: High!

Muppets: Never gonna quit

Just keep getting stronger!

And nothing?s gonna bring us down

Kids: No!

Muppets: Never givin? up gotta go

Kids: Go!

Muppets: Because we know, we?ll keep getting stronger!

?Sesame Workshop has always been at the forefront of creating resources for families with young children to help address some of life?s most difficult issues.? said H. Melvin Ming, President and CEO of Sesame Workshop. ?Little Children, Big Challenges is Sesame Workshop?s contribution to all those who face the challenge of helping a child cope with life?s highs and lows and help our kids reach their highest potential.?

Little Children, Big Challenges is a multiyear, bilingual (English/Spanish) initiative that will provide tools to help encourage parents, caregivers, and educators to use positive routines to help foster young children?s resilience on a daily basis. This initiative will help all children cope with trying new things, learning from mistakes, making new friends, resolving conflicts, the bedtime blues, and understanding their own abilities. In addition to helping children cope with these day-to-day challenges, Little Children Big Challenges will also tackle more serious changes and transitions such as bullying, and when parents are divorced or incarcerated. Sesame Workshop is committed to providing free multimedia resources to all families raising preschoolers and these kits will be distributed through partnerships with Military OneSource, the Military Child Education Coalition and the USO. Additionally, Sesame Workshop will distribute to general public families through partnerships with parenting, child-care, health, and education programs, social work organizations, counselors and psychologists, and bullying prevention organizations.

The What We Are anthem will be available on Sesame Street?s website for military families, as well as Sesame Street?s YouTube Channel. In addition, new online resources for Little Children, Big Challenges will feature the anthem along with new interactive tools for children and families. Finally, in conjunction with this event, major updates to Sesame?s Feel Electric! mobile app, a free resilience tool for school-aged children, will be available on May 26, 2012 for Apple iPod, iPhone and Android devices.

Major support for Little Children, Big Challenges provided by BAE Systems, Inc. Generous support provided by The Prudential Foundation, the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, the USO, and Military Child Education Coalition.

In the June 1st episode of Lifetime?s Coming Home, Sesame Street?s very own Elmo and Rosita, along with host, Matt Rogers, travel all the way to Fort Bliss, Texas, to put together a once-in-a-lifetime surprise for the children of an Army sergeant who are having an especially hard time with their father?s deployment in Iraq. Not a day goes by that Tristan and Alyssa Bomarito don?t miss their father Sgt. Mark Bomarito. To Tristan, Mark is not just Dad, he?s his best friend. In one of the series? most emotional and heartfelt moments Elmo and Rosita enlist the help of a General to bring the children of Fort Bliss together and create a surprise this family will never forget.

Will and Jada Smith: Going Strong, 15 Years Later!

For Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, it's all about putting family first and being by each other's side. Sounds cliche, but it really does work.

For nearly 15 years, in their case.

"We make the effort to always put the family first," Smith said at last weekend's Men in Black III premiere in New York City. "Being there for each other and being present with our kids ... I take being a parent very seriously."

Will, Jada Pinkett Smith

Will is father to Trey, 19, from a previous relationship, and Jaden, 13, and Willow, 11, with Jada. He considers his marriage and children his top priority, and flew back to L.A. from New York nearly every weekend while filming MIB3.

He and Jada will celebrate their 15th anniversary in December.

Despite rumors of their divorce lately - which Pinkett Smith recently said were ridiculous - Will says that, as a couple, they're as strong as ever.

"What's helped us is being supportive, no matter what the situation is," the actor says of his better half. "I'm so lucky to have someone like Jada."

"She's really an incredible woman, wife and mother."

What he loves the most about her is "she is just absolutely hardcore, like she absolutely is unfazed by the weight and the pressures of life. She is so calm and cool and easy in any situation. She can bear anything, and I just love that about her."

Bad Tech Etiquette To Avoid at Work - All VoIP News

Angie Reed is a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) expert and Switchvox UC Product Marketing Manager at Digium, the creator and sponsor of Asterisk, the world's most widely used open source communications software. Follow her @switchvox and read her blog.

Technology has simplified communications for most businesses, however the increased use of conference calls, video conferencing, and instant messaging has created a new list of off-putting behaviors that could land your business in an awkward situation.

2. Keep it short. IM works best for quick questions and updates. If the message is complicated, and takes more than a few sentences, pick up the phone or get out of your chair and walk down the hall to discuss.

1. Video conferencing is more widely used in recent years in an effort to save on travel costs. It's best to always assume the microphones and the cameras are on. That means don?t do or say anything you don?t want on camera.

2. Mute your phone if you dial in from a public area, or if you need to multi-task during on a call. There is nothing worse than feeling like the person on the other end of the line is not engaged.

3. Refrain from having side conversations during participating on calls. It makes it difficult for those on the call to understand the dialogue if there is more than one conversation taking place in the conference room.

4. Avoid loud snacks, smacking of gum, slamming of office drawers, crying babies, barking dogs or deep down any noise that will be magnified and hinder communication with other participants.

5. Don't shout into the speakerphone. Today's high-definition phones are particularly sensitive and you may come across louder than you intend. And, if you decide to move the phone around the room, keep in mind that the audience on the other side will hear it.

1. Don?t use your speakerphone. If you assumed that using the speakerphone on a cell phone was something that only happens on reality TV, think again. It seems to be a growing trend among many cell phone users ? and an annoyance for anyone standing close by. During it's fine that you can work from just about anywhere now, don't make everyone else part of your work day.

If you in effect use your speakerphone for cell phone calls at work and have that stuck-up attitude about it, I?d love to be your boss?

Keeping Up With the Kardashians Recap: Worst. Momager. Ever.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians is back!

Sadly, this season has been all Kris Jenner.

On last week's Keeping Up season premiere, Khloe Kardashian's paternity non-issues took center stage. This week, she's on the outs with Kourtney Kardashian.

Why? Find out here in our official rekap!

Keeping Up with the Kardashians Promotional Image

Kourtney Kardashian is not a fan of her mom's book. Or new attitude. "My mom's just like, talking about some hot guy at the concert and I just find every little thing she's saying annoying," she says. "She's a married woman, it's just inappropriate."

It's the past that really bugs her though. The two have it out over her mother's affair and subsequent divorce, something that makes this contrived, scripted show feel real and close to home for the first time probably ever. Plus 30.

"I didn't do something on purpose to hurt you," Kris says. "I was too young and stupid to make a good decision. If I had to do it all over again obviously I wouldn't do it." No, Ryan Seacrest Productions would never have written it. Minus 20.

Plus 5 for Scott at least trying to be there for Kourtney.

Plus 25 for Kourt's apology and opening up at the end.

Kris Jenner Book Cover

Kris just sucks, though. Minus 220. She'd say or do anything for money or fame. Yes, this is America and she's successful and blah-blah-blah. When your job is "momager," it's time to reassess your priorities in life. Honestly.

Plus 10 for Bruce taking Kim, Kendall and Kylie on a hike and chasing Kim around with a spider, which the arachnophobia-prone star HATES.

"It's just not funny, I am so afraid of spiders," Kim says. "He wants to mess around Well, Mr. Olympics can hurdle his way home. He can sprint, javelin his way, whatever." Plus only 5 because there's no way Kim thought up that good a line.

Kim plots revenge, letting Bruce borrow her Ferrari, then "stealing" it with her spare key and letting it believe it happened on his watch. A little different than chasing a person with a spider, no? Minus only 5, because it is clever.

Plus 10 for Scott giving it away before Bruce had a heart attack.

Bruce Jenner PhotographKimmy Kardashian Photo

Plus 10 more for Bruce giving props at being punked, though obviously Kim orchestrated none of that on her own. Nice going, producers!

Finally, Kylie Jenner is annoyed with sister Kendall's passiveness when they get a gig as a Seventeen West Coast Fashion Contributor. She's too shy!

On a trip to Malibu to find new models, Kylie ends up being the only one taking action while Kendall sticks to the sidelines. By definition, Wash.

After Kylie vents to Kim Kardashian about Kendall's lack of teamwork, the older sister does her best to impart some important words of "wisdom."

"You have to figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are and meet in the middle," Kim says, adding that Kourt and Khloe helped bring her out of her shy stage.

Well, those two and Ray J. Plus 50.

How Can a Personal Injury Lawyer Help Me?

In the United States, there are 16,000 automobile accidents every day. Millions of?Americans miss work each year due to work-related injuries and millions?more?are harmed by medical errors every year. It is simply far too easy to suffer an injury.? Moreover, the consequences of an injury also have costs - there are medical expenses, lost wages, and even the loss of the ability to earn money in the future.?With all of these consequences, the stress and pain of an injury can last long after you have healed.

?

If you have suffered an injury as the result of another person?s actions, or because someone else failed to take precautions to prevent injury, you?may be able to?take legal action to recover damages. The responsible party may be required to pay your medical bills and compensate you for lost wages as well as lost potential wages. You should take every precaution to protect your family and yourself after you?ve been injured. That includes hiring an attorney to explore your legal options.

?

Why you should hire a personal injury attorney

?

A personal injury lawsuit can be extremely complex. Witnesses may be called to testify about your injury or the circumstances that caused it. Records may require examination. Expert witnesses may be required. Personal injury cases require careful attention to detail. Resolving injury cases can require documentation, red tape, and a great deal of time. Hiring an attorney with experience in personal injury law is vital in order to protect your legal rights. If you intend to recover damages from a company or other organization, it?s a sure bet that they will have legal counsel on their side.

?

Your attorney can do more than simply coordinate your legal case. They can assist you in completing the paperwork that often accompanies an injury claim. They can help you negotiate with insurers and opposing counsel. An experienced attorney will have access to a network of investigators and expert witnesses that can make the difference for your claim. An attorney with personal injury experience can help you with all aspects of the injury claim process, not just your lawsuit.

?

In addition, many personal injury lawyers work on contingency. This means that they will not charge you unless you win your case. The personal and financial stress of an injury can be difficult to manage. You may be tempted by a settlement offer that is not in your best interest. Your attorney can give you objective advice on these offers, to let you know what you should expect. Finally, you may be able to resolve your case through mediation, reducing the time and expense needed to recover your claim. Your attorney can assist you throughout the mediation process.

?

While you may still be responsible for other expenses, such as independent review of your medical records by a new doctor, you should not consider an attorney yet another expense. It can be the best investment you could make after an injury.

MIND Reviews: Connectome

Connectome: How the Brain?s Wiring Makes Us Who We Are
by Sebastian Seung. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2012

To truly understand how the human brain works, Massachusetts Institute of Technology computational neuroscientist Seung argues that researchers should focus on what he dubs the connectome?the set of connections among all neurons in the brain.

In Connectome, Seung argues that these maps might explain what makes us unique: revealing, for example, why two people react to the same social situation differently or why some individuals are afflicted with, for instance, schizophrenia, but others are spared.

Puzzling out the connectome would allow the fabled frontier of personalized neuroscience to become a reality. Yet with more than 100 billion neurons in the human brain, some say this mapping project is practically impossible.

Seung postulates, however, that recent technological advances have made it doable. Equipped with new devices, scientists may be able to work synapse by synapse to understand how brain wiring can go awry to cause disease and find suitable targets for drug interventions.

First, Seung offers sound explanations of state-of-the-art tools and processes that may allow us to map our connectomes. He then takes liberties, discussing his thought experiments on what might become possible if researchers could tap into personal connectomes. He wonders, for example, whether scientists will be able to reconstruct our experiences in a computer simulation, displaying, for instance, a memory of a loved one?s smile.

Although he entertains the ?what if? scenarios, Seung remains pragmatic about which milestones are currently possible and which are decades or several hundred years away. Seung is clearly onto something, and he believes the payoff will be worth the wait.

Black workers file charges for noose in locker room

By Martha C. White

Three African-American workers at a Siemens Energy facility in New Jersey have filed charges of discrimination with the?Equal Employment Opportunity Commission?and the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights after they said years of racial harassment recently culminated in their finding a noose hanging in front of their lockers.?

"The complainants ... are pursuing these charges and will be filing a federal lawsuit in the hopes of bringing to light and changing the current climate of open racial discrimination at this facility," Brian K. Wiley, the lawyer representing the employees, said via email.?

In January, four-year Siemens employee David Solomon said he entered the workers' changing area and found a noose hanging "right next to my locker." He photographed the noose and alerted his co-workers, Eddie Clarke and Barry Murphy. In an April 4 affidavit, all three testified that they had seen the noose and detailed numerous other instances of racial discrimination.

"I felt though a clear?message was being sent to the black employees at Siemens to shut up, do what your [sic] told and stop complaining about being treated unfairly or we would be lynched," Solomon wrote. "Every person in power at my job is white. There are no black supervisors, and no African?-Americans to report this too [sic]."?

Clarke wrote in his statement that he had been physically threatened by his supervisor after voicing complaints about a discriminatory work environment in which African-Americans were denied the opportunity for advancement. "My supervisor had previously?warned me a few years back that if I complained of racial bias in the workplace any further I would get caught in 'friendly fire,' " he wrote. "The?supervisor approached me shortly after and expressed surprise that I was ?still alive.?"

Siemens responded with a statement calling hanging a noose in the workplace a "deplorable, aggressive act" and said the company "promptly notified law enforcement." Company spokeswoman Camille Johnston said via email, "We have been in contact with federal, state and local authorities," without providing details of which agencies.?

In its statement, Siemens said it initiated an internal investigation, which it concluded after?the company's "corporate security team that included members with 30+ years of experience with the Federal Bureau of Investigation ...?could not find any evidence of how the noose got there."

Wiley countered the assertion that Siemens proactively contacted police. "To be clear, it was the complainants who contacted law enforcement to report what has happened to them," he said. "While we do not have the ability to know whether Siemens contacted law enforcement as they claim, we can say with certainty that none of the three victims was contacted by any law enforcement agency."?

Between 2006 and 2010, the EEOC ordered eight companies to pay a total of nearly $5.2 million stemming from cases of racial discrimination or harassment that involved nooses. The agency's site says it is illegal for race or skin color to impact "hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, fringe benefits, and any other term or condition of employment."?It also says the display "racially-offensive symbols" constitutes illegal racial harrassment.?

"The company is responding to the EEOC charges as appropriate," Johnston said.?An EEOC spokesman declined to comment.

Wiley said no specific amount of damages had been determined for the federal lawsuit he plans to file on behalf of the three men. "There's no real way to quantify" the impact that years ? decades in the case of Murphy, a Siemens employee since 1966 ? worth of denied advancement opportunities and hostile working conditions had on his clients. "[Siemens] conceivably could be responsible for a large amount," he said.

A 5 Step Internet Marketing Plan That's Very Effective and Very ...

A planned, organized Internet Marketing is all you need; run the campaign through a variety of targeted sites, directories and venues and you?re sure to see the sales soaring and money flowing in. Of course, you have to have a solid knowledge of your target customers to ensure that the campaign turns into a great success. Here is a 5 step Internet Marketing plan that you can implement immediately (you can even customize this 5 step plan for your specific requirements and budget).

Defining Customers

Know who your target customers are and the battle is half won! Defining your target customers is as important as defining your products and/or services. Conduct an extensive market research to know what is your perfect, solid customer really like? What does your perfect customer do for living? Is he an entrepreneur, a writer or a farmer? Know the level of education your perfect customers have Is your customer a male or female? What?s the net household income of your customers? The above are among the questions that need to be answered so that you can define your customers.

The Places for Promotion

Choosing targets for promoting your products is damn important.

Putting up your ads on several sites and venues commonly frequented by your customers is what seems to be the best way out. Pay per Click (PPC) advertising is one thing that you shouldn?t miss out on. However, managing a PPC campaign can be daunting for a new soul. So, let an Internet Marketing Consultant in India help you out with PPC campaigns.

Budget

Of course, you should have at least a rough figure on the back of your mind. And, once you define your customers and chart out a plan to promote your products, you have a good idea of the costs involved. However, with a limited budget, the best you can do is to prepare a list and prioritize the ads in terms of exposure that they will bring to your products. If PPC is what fascinates you the most, do make sure that you check in daily for the first week or so and monitor the results.

Content Matters

Just because you hold a bachelor degree in English Literature doesn?t mean you?re fit to write for the web, especially when you are paying to publish that content such as PPC Ads. Search for professional internet marketing companies India and let an experienced copy writer craft eye-grabbing ad content for your business. Remember, internet marketing works best when you focus only on one or two products of yours. It?s recommended to use words like, ?You, ?Yours?, ?Fun?, ?Relaxing?, ?Amazing? and ?Best Quality?. Come out with content that registers at the emotional level.

Tracking and Monitoring the Campaign A constant tracking and monitoring of ads is critical to the success of a marketing campaign. Let a professional Internet Marketing Company do the job.

JumpHigher, an interactive marketing division of Olive e-Business Pvt Ltd, is among the most-experienced companies around. We offer smart and result-driven internet marketing solutions including PPC at budget friendly prices.

Casey Anthony "Dreading" Upcoming Court Date

Earlier this week, Casey Anthony's attorneys accepted a subpoena that forces her to testify in a civil lawsuit, and she is not happy about it.

Anthony, 26, is angry that it will affect her plans to leave the U.S. after her probation ends in August, as she must be available to testify.

Says a source close to the accused child killer:

C. Anthony

"Casey was really hoping to leave Florida and never look back. She was really ready to move on with her life. This has ruined everything."

Anthony will have to answer tough questions about her statements in the days after her daughter, Caylee Anthony, was reported missing.

She claimed that a babysitter named Zenaida Gonzalez had kidnapped the little girl, an allegation that turned out to be entirely untrue.

Now a woman by the same name is suing Anthony for defamation.

"Casey just wants this case to go away," says the source. "She definitely doesn't want to testify, and she's annoyed that she has to."

These days, Anthony is living in seclusion in South Florida.

She must stay in the state due to her probation for check fraud, and ventures out only infrequently, afraid that she will be recognized.

But according to two individuals close to her, she looks much different. "Quite honestly, she's gained a few pounds," says the source.

"She does nothing but sit in front of her computer and eat."

Casey Anthony remains unemployed and broke, and, according to probation reports, she recently stopped attending counseling.

One thing she does do: speak regularly with her mom.

Sources close to the Anthony family have confirmed that Casey began mending her relationship with Cindy several months ago.

She does not communicate with her father, George Anthony, whom she accused of molesting her during her murder trial.

Anthony will return to the Orange County courthouse to testify in January 2013, possibly sooner, as a result of Gonzalez's lawsuit.

One is when specific knowledge is needed. There?s a common typecast that smaller businesses cannot delegate. Some people believe that according associated with small businesses freelancing is actually ineffective, troublesome and doesn?t increase profit. Needless to mention how groundless these types of allegations are! There is no need to become a large of the company to start freelancing. Numerous small businesses begin to delegate when a certain level of profit is actually achieved. Outsourcing enables you to spend more time on your primary business capabilities, as well as building your client foundation as well as promoting the services you provide. You are able to better focus on your personal duties and those of your workers, which results in increased efficiency as well as productivity.

The only real peculiarity associated with freelancing, when it comes to smaller businesses, is the fact that its usefulness is going to be smaller sized in comparison with those of large businesses. Nevertheless, it?s understandable, doesn?t it?

Smaller businesses won?t earn hundreds of thousands per month although outsourcing, nonetheless there are many benefits, shares Todd Genger. Very first, you need to do save your time, which can be allocated to expanding your business. 2nd, you benefit via failing to pay for all these pays connected with an in-house professional. It is a prominent conserving, without a doubt!

Now, have a look at the tips upon freelancing for small businesses:

Select things to delegate

Though it may appear unusual, it?s an real question the same. As a matter of fact, there are two possible solutions:

? To outsource the strategic procedures

? To outsource additional procedures

What are the strategic procedures, incidentally? The actual proper procedures are the essence of the company or even, in other words, the service you offer for your customers, shares Todd Genger. If you run a translation company, for instance, you might do business with independent linguists, and that means you outsource the proper operation.

On the other hand, you may opt for different things. You might be interested in freelancing accounting.

Outsourcing ought to be incremental

Don?t need to be too quick when doing company with freelancing specialists; I?d rather say you should not!

The prosperity of freelancing depends, to large degree, around the professionalism and reliability of your outsource, expalins Todd Genger. First, you should check regardless of whether his work meets your requirements. If it does, you can continue creating long-term relationships.

Keeping stability

This particular tip is instrumental for large companies and smaller businesses. Keep in mind that there should be a balance in between in-house specialists as well as freelancing partner, stats Todd Genger. Your outsourcers should not surpass your full-time employees 90% to 10%. Remember about your business, as it is really worth developing.

CANTERBURY CHORAL SOCIETY PRESENTS?CAMP CANTERBURY?THIS SUMMER

Registration deadline approaches ? May 28, 2012

Canterbury Choral Society presents its seventh annual summer day-camp for kids,?Camp Canterbury, June 4 through 9, 2012 on the campus of??Oklahoma City University.

Camp Canterbury?provides students entering grades 2 through 9 a week of making music while making new friends.??The camp culminates in a performance on stage at Oklahoma City University followed by a reception for family members.?Camp Canterbury?reaches nearly 100 students each year through a fun and educational environment. The program prepares students for their school program or to audition for the Canterbury Youth Choruses; Canterbury?s flagship music education program.

?As schools are continually being forced to eliminate their fine arts programs due to budget concerns,?Camp Canterbury?is seeking to reach the children of our community through quality choral music education,? said Dr. Kay E. Holt, Executive Director of the Canterbury Choral Society. ?We seek to support students? music education needs with hands-on instruction with renowned music educators.?

Led by Canterbury Youth Choruses (CYC) Artistic Director and Oklahoma City University Wanda L. Bass Professor of Conducting and Choral Music Education, Judith Willoughby, Camp Canterbury is open to students from all over the Oklahoma City metro. Willoughby will be joined by CYC instructor and Wilson Elementary Vocal Music Specialist, Meredith Cook.

?Camp Canterbury is offered to all interested singers with a recommendation from their music teacher,??said Joanie Gregory-Pullen, Coordinator of Education and School Partnerships for Canterbury Choral Society. ?We recommend students be able to match pitch, repeat simple rhythm patterns and read simple music notation to be successful and make the most of their week at camp.?

The cost for the week is $85 and registration is due May 28, 2012. More information and a registration form can be downloaded at?www.canterburyokc.com/campcanterbury?or by calling 405-232-SING (7464). Funding for?Camp Canterbury?is provided by the American Fidelity Foundation, Allied Arts, Chesapeake Energy, the E.L. and Thelma Gaylord Foundation, Kimray Inc., the Oklahoma Arts Council, and Mrs. & Mrs. James W. Bruce, Jr.

Camp Canterbury?is just one of Canterbury Choral Society?s music education programs for children. The?Canterbury Youth Choruses, Canterbury Club Chorus?? a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County, and?Canterbury High School Side-by-Side Program?reach over 300 school-aged students each year. Combined with a strategic partnership with Oklahoma City University and the Adult Chorus Civic Center Season, Canterbury meets the choral music education needs of generations throughout Oklahoma.

Nearing its 44th season, Canterbury Choral Society has been encouraging the development of the arts through its multiple music education programs and attracting world-renowned performers to come and share their talents in Oklahoma City. ?For more information on Canterbury, visit?www.canterburyokc.com?or call 405-232-SING. ?Also, don?t forget to follow Canterbury Choral Society on Facebook!
